Zendaya rocks Instyle Awards 2017 with bold fashion statements

Zendaya may only be 21 years old, but we can all learn something from this inspiring young woman.

The former Disney starlet received the Style Star Award at the Instyle Awards 2017 at the LA Getty Center. Zendaya wore a stunning Schiaparelli Fall 2017 Couture dress. She complimented the dress with an awe-inspiring afro.

In an Instagram post, Zendaya shared a family photo captioned, “Last night’s inspo. my stunning aunties (my daddy’s all the way on the left) and a hint of Angela Davis.”

Zendaya is known to be an outspoken individual. She is a huge advocate for change and getting people her age to speak up for what they believe in on social media. So, to no surprise, she also had an inspiring speech to go along with her fabulous ensemble.

Before Zendaya was introduced to accept her award, her stylist Law Roach described Zendaya as having “the beauty of a model but the poise of a princess.” Zendaya then came onto the stage, thanking her stylist for giving her the confidence to wear anything she wanted.

“Fashion has given me that vehicle not to care. Literally, the only opinion that should matter when you step outside the house or when you wear something and you put something on when you look in the mirror should be your own,” she said. “I thank you for pushing me to be confident and pushing me to take chances.”

Breaking the rules of fashion is always an admirable thing to see in someone, especially an established celebrity. Zendaya thanked other celebrities like Selena Gomez and Cate Blanchett in her speech.

The starlet’s speech even moved Blanchett. She told Instyle, “I thought what Zendaya said was fantastic about being true to herself and not really caring about what you wear about how you present yourself. It’s got to be how you feel. It’s really great to hear a younger generation who are beset by likes and dislikes and a myriad of opinions about their appearances as young women’s [express] their strength and courage to be extraordinary individuals that they are.”

Zendaya got her start on Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up” at the ripe age of 14. “Shake It Up” was all about two best friends who are backup dancers on a local Chicago dancing program. The show ran for three seasons. Zendaya also starred in a Disney Channel Original Movie called “Frenemies,” which gathered 4.2 million viewers at its premiere.

After “Shake It Up” ended, the network created another show for Zendaya, knowing they still wanted to keep her on the roster. Currently, she stars in is “K.C Undercover.” The show follows a girl named K.C, who her parents recruit to be an undercover spy working for the Organization saving the world every episode. The show premiered in 2015 and is currently in its third season.

In 2017, it was revealed that Zendaya actually had a lot to do with how “K.C Undercover” ended up as a final product. In the July 2017 issue of Vogue, she stated she didn’t sign onto doing the show until giving her character more than being just a regular girl. She wanted her character to be strong, smart, and able to do everything a guy could do.

“I want her to be just as smart as everybody else. I want her to be a brainiac. I want her to be able to think on her feet. But I also want her to be socially awkward, not a cool kid. I want her to be normal with an extraordinary life.”

As a current producer on her own show, it is clear she wants to leave a great impression on her younger fans.

“A lot of people don’t realize their power,” she explained to Vogue. “I have so many friends who say yes to everything or feel like they can’t stand up for themselves in a situation. But, no: You have the power.”

Zendaya landed her first feature film shot in the summer blockbuster, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” like Michelle, and will appear in the 2019 sequel. She will also be seen in the musical “The Greatest Showman,” slated for release in December 2017, co-starring Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron.
