LOVE YOURSELF – What is Self Care?

The most important relationship you will ever hold, is the one you have with yourself.

This topic of giving yourself love first, has popped in my head this week due to actions that took place on this week two whole years ago. Now, I don’t have an exact date unfortunately, but two years ago this week, I came out to my friends, family, everyone as bisexual.

You may be thinking, what does your sexuality have to do with love? To me, it’s simple. Picture this: your whole life, you don’t know why you are different but you sense you are. You have all of this built up inside of you, but you feel like you can’t talk about it. For me personally, I didn’t even know what bisexuality was until 4 ish years ago. Your whole lifetime, all you see is men and women together, and when I got older I learned about being gay, but I didn’t feel like I fit in either box.

Once I came out, I felt the most ‘me’ I’ve ever felt. The weight off my chest was lifted, I finally understood the facade I put up for all of these years as ‘the overly straight person’ to friends even though I knew that it wasn’t me.

From that day forward, I told myself I will start living authentically. That year to now, I stopped wearing makeup all of the time. I dropped people who didn’t celebrate me. I felt free.

Loving yourself will not happen overnight. It takes time. You have to love the whole package. Yes, we all have our moments of not being able to accept who we are or what we look like but we always pick ourselves back up. At the end of the day, you are here for a reason, you chose to live loudly or however you please. What would Jack McFarland or Karen Walker think?

I hope you take this little part of me with you, when you start to accept who you are. “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love anybody else?”

  1. Your quote at the end, “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love anybody else?” THIS is EVERYTHING! Love you
