Former Glee actress Naya Rivera was arrested on Saturday and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery following an alleged altercation with her husband, actor Ryan Dorsey, in West Virginia. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Dorsey claimed to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office that Rivera struck him in the head and face, and authorities reported that Dorsey had minor injuries to those areas when reporting. Dorsey also provided a video of the altercation to the police. Rivera was then charged and arrested for domestic battery. Rivera was taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court, where a bond was set. Rivera was then released from custody.
A video from WCHS Eyewitness News in Charleston shows Naya Rivera being handcuffed.
Rivera and Dorsey married in Cabo San Lucas back in 2014, months after Rivera’s split the engagement with rapper Big Sean. Back in November of last year, Rivera filed for divorce but then later called it off. The two share a two-year-old son. A representative claims the couple was arguing about the son when the domestic battery took place.
In a statement to PEOPLE about their divorce last November, Rivera stated, “After much consideration, we have decided to end our marriage. Our priority is and always will be our beautiful son that we share. We will continue to be great co-parenting partners for him. We ask for respect and privacy for our family during this difficult time,” and later stated to PEOPLE last month, saying, “It is what it is, but I’m glad that my family is together.”
Just after news of the domestic battery took place, Big Sean responded to the news on Twitter with a video of a little girl saying, “I told y’all n–. I told y’all n–. Y’all thought I was playing, but I told y’all n–.”
Big Sean and Naya Rivera’s romance was short-lived. Back in 2013, the couple was together for only 6 months before announcing their engagement. In April 2014, Big Sean broke off the engagement, and in Rivera’s memoir “Sorry Not Sorry,” she claimed to have found the news through the internet.
Rivera had her breakthrough through the critically acclaimed FOX show “Glee” as Santana Lopez, a high school cheerleader who comes to terms with her sexuality throughout the series. The show went on for six seasons with 121 episodes. Unfortunately for Rivera, since the end of “Glee,” Rivera has not really been able to find a steady show since then. Rivera was signed to Columbia Records to produce a solo album but was later dropped in 2014 due to her debut single underperforming. Rivera has had a few guest spots on different shows, such as lending her voice to “American Dad!” and a guest judge spot on “Rupaul’s Drag Race” but hasn’t landed a role as a series regular on a show.
Nothing has come out of the woodworks since the incident of Rivera getting arrested. However, since Rivera has been bailed out, hopefully, things work out between the two, or we may be getting another divorce announcement sometime soon.
