Christiane Amanpour to take over Charlie Rose’s PBS Slot

As of November 21, Charlie Rose was fired, and his show on PBS was canceled due to multiple women accusing Rose of sexual misconduct. In an announcement on Monday by PBS, it was said that Christiane Amanpour would be taking over Rose’s interview slot with “Amanpour on PBS.” The new program will begin airing on December 11th at 11 P.M. and air on CNN International on weekdays.

Amanpour is CNN’s chief international correspondent and has been committed to the network since 1983. Amanpour is a decorated journalist, with 11 Emmy awards, four Peabody awards and two George Polk awards under her belt.

The Rose scandal broke after eight women came forward to The Washington Post claiming Rose made unwanted sexual advances towards them, such as grouping and inappropriate phone calls between The 1990s and 2011. More women like a reporter at The Huffington Post also claimed Rose used intimidation tactics and so on towards her.

In a statement via Twitter, Rose addressed these allegations but didn’t own up to all of the accusations, stating he “does not believe that all of these allegations are accurate.”

“It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.”

Amanpour is showing to be a great replacement for PBS. Neal Shapiro, president and chief executive of WNET, stated that “Amanpour is a fearless and uncompromising journalist.” Shapiro also went on to say, “We are pleased to welcome her to the PBS system and are gratified to offer this thorough and responsible news program to viewers nationwide.”

Christiane Amanpour joining the PBS family could take some time to get used to since Rose has been axed off the network. However, due to Amanpour’s history with reporting, it is no secret that she is the right person for the job. “Amanpour on PBS” will air on December 11th in the 11:30 time slot on PBS and CNN International.
